Recipe: Perfect Simple Croissants
Simple Croissants. This simplified croissant recipe will have you baking croissants like a pro. Flaky, buttery, and deliciously authentic, yet so easy to make! Today I am sharing a recipe that has been on my bucket list for years: homemade croissants!
Cheese & ham: Lay a slice of ham and a slice of cheese on top of each triangle of dough and shape as in the recipe. Croissants for Brunch: I recommend starting the recipe the day before in the early afternoon. The recipe for French croissants that I am sharing here is an adaptation of the recipe I learned in that course. You can have Simple Croissants using 8 ingredients and 9 steps. Here is how you achieve that.
Ingredients of Simple Croissants
- It's 2 cups of all purpose flour.
- It's 1/4 cup of warm milk.
- Prepare 1/4 cup of butter/margarine.
- It's 1 tablespoon of yeast.
- You need 1/2 teaspoon of salt.
- It's 4 tablespoons of sugar.
- It's 1/4 cup of warm water.
- You need 1 of egg.
I adapted it to suit a home baker, who may not have the resources needed to make a large batch. These non-traditional yet easy homemade croissants are just as delicious and surpass any croissant that you would unroll from a can and bake. If you can make biscuits and roll out pie dough, then you definitely can make these beauties. Buttery and flakey and beautifully golden brown — I've never met anyone who doesn't love croissants.
Simple Croissants instructions
- Mix the warm water, milk, yeast and 2 tablespoons of sugar and let it form, for 10-15 minutes.
- In a separate bowl, mix the flour, salt, the remaining sugar. Add the wet mixture knead to form a dough..
- Cover the dough with a samp kitchen towel and let it rest for 2 hours..
- After 2hrs, take the dough, knead it again then roll it out, apply the butter/margarine at the center the fold the dough into a square.
- Wrap the dough in cling film and put it in the fridge for 1hour. Taken it out after, roll it out and fold it into a square as before, wrap it up and put it back in the fridge for another hour and repeat the process one more time. (This process is to ensure you get the buttered inner layers)..
- Take the dough, from the fridge after the final wrap, roll it out in a rectangle shape, about 1cm thick, the cut it into triangles.
- Take each triangle, make a cut at the bottom and roll it into the signature croissant shape..
- Beat the egg and apply the egg wash on the top. Preheat the oven then put them in for 15-20 mins at 180°..
- Let them cool and serve as you please..
Make these easy croissants in a bread machine or food processor or with a mixer. Plan ahead to allow time for the yeast bread to rise. This recipe is courtesy of Red Star Yeast. I was very thrilled to find this recipe and gave it a try immediately and I really love it. The croissants themselves take some time to rise properly but the results are definitely worth the wait.
